If you live in the Triad area, I highly recommend signing up for a cooking class at Southern Home & Kitchen, my favorite store in the Thruway Shopping Center here in Winston-Salem. Not only do they have great merchandise, but they also have a fantastic kitchen in the back of the store where they host several cooking classes each month (see the schedule here!).
Yesterday I attended a class called, “Healthy Lunchtime Xpress: How to Cook Vegetables That Everyone Will Love,” with Dianne McConnell, a food coach with Healthy Foods Matter.
In only one hour, she prepared for us a delicious lunch of Moroccan lentils with spinach and rice, green beans, slaw, roasted sweet potatoes and autumn squash, and a bok choy and mushroom stir fry. The instruction was very clear and informative, and all of the food tasted great!
Dianne is a trained chef and former caterer out of New York City who now lives in Pfafftown, NC. She graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, a 1-year program about diet and nutrition, and now counsels, blogs, teaches cooking classes, and supports people who are interested in a healthier lifestyle. Read more about her here.
Dianne has several more cooking classes coming up at SoHo, so check out the schedule and call the store to sign up (336.777.3660). You won’t regret it!
Classes range from $22-52, depending on how fancy the food is, they typically occur at lunch or dinnertime, and you get to eat a great meal at the end! Learning how to cook nutritious meals is essential to a healthy life, so why not learn from an expert? I promise you won’t be disappointed!
