You may or may not have noticed my brief respite from posting. David, Abby, and I decided to escape the cold Winston weather by spending the weekend with David’s parents at their vacation home in Bluffton, near Hilton Head. I’ve been using this time to get some much-needed rest, spend time with family, and eat some delicious food.
In case you’ve never been to this area of the country, I highly recommend it. It’s a great vacation spot for golfers, but the nearby beach, beautiful landscape, and fresh seafood (yes, I eat fish when I’m on vacation!) are enough to keep me coming back.
I haven’t been doing any recipe development while I’ve been here, but I did make my Veggie Pot Pie and my Citrus Tea Cookies for everyone, in case you were wondering!
Yesterday morning, David, Abby and I ate brunch at a cute little diner on the island. Since I’m on vacation, I ordered a vegetarian eggs Benedict with avocado, tomato, and red onion. I enjoyed every bite, although I think my hollandaise sauce recipe is better 🙂
Two years ago, David and I stumbled upon a beautiful church by the May River in Bluffton. The sun was setting, the temperature was perfect, and the photos were gorgeous. Tonight I returned to this church before dinner and took more pictures with my camera, as opposed to my phone. Again, it was a lovely evening. Below are some of my favorite photos of The Church of the Cross and its view of the river.
We’re leaving tomorrow morning, and I’m not ready! I wish we could stay another week, but I guess it’s time to return to my kitchen 🙂

As a Bluffton local, and a one time resident of central NC, I can vouch about the weather in the fall and winter. Much Nicer. But don’t stick around for the 3 weeks of rain in spring where the cyprus bogs fill up and nothing dries for a month and mosquitoes start to feed with a vengence, or the summer where the heat index is sweltering thanks to the 80%+ humidity.
Not that I’d live anywhere else!

I just moved to Bluffton after growing up in California. I have to say- I love how green it is here. Everything feels extremely alive, wherever you may be.
